DECATUR, Ill. — A bill sponsored by state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, that would trigger three land transfers throughout the state of Illinois, passed the Illinois House of Representatives Thursday.

“The Springfield High Speed Rail Corridor will not only benefit local residents and businesses, but it will also bring economic opportunities and other advantages to the entire region,” Scherer said. “One of the land transfers in this bill will assist the progress of the High Speed Rail Corridor project, expediting and amplifying the benefits we shall soon see.”

House Bill 3823 creates three land transfers in the state. Most notably, the bill conveys a transfer of a strip of land located in Sangamon County from the State of Illinois to the City of Springfield for the purpose of the Springfield High Speed Rail Corridor. This access helps expedite the High Speed Rail project moving forward.

“This bill touches several corners of the state so that these respective communities have the resources and space they need,” Scherer said. “Though land transfer legislation seems routine, this bill will have significant impact in the areas it affects, and I thank my colleagues for their support.”

House Bill 3823 will now go to the governor’s desk for final approval. For more information, contact Scherer’s Springfield office at (217) 524-0353 or her Decatur office at (217) 877-9636.
