Rep. Manley Highlights Utility Bill Assistance for Low-Income Residents

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is encouraging residents in need to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) beginning Sept. 1. LIHEAP assists low-income residents pay for home energy services such as heat, electricity, and gas.

“With fall and winter quickly approaching, it is essential that families are able to heat their homes. As we deal with the current inflation, energy costs can be even more burdensome on a family’s budget,” Manley said. “LIHEAP helps families across the state pay for heating so they can live safely and comfortably in their homes.”

LIHEAP applications open Sept. 1, 2022 and close on May 31, 2023 or until funding is exhausted. Households with a combined income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level within the 30 days prior to application may be eligible to receive assistance. Renters also may be eligible.

“No family should have to choose between putting food on the table or turning on their heat in the winter,” said Manley. “Fortunately, there are resources available to help families access this vital service. I encourage those in need to apply for LIHEAP as soon as possible.”
