CHICAGO – State Rep. Angelica Guerrero-Cuellar, D-Chicago, wants to let current employees and enrolled students in early-childhood education programs know that they are still eligible for scholarship money that can cover the full cost of their education through the Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity (ECACE) Scholarship.

“Low-income students are saddled with student loan debt that prevents them from pursuing their career goals, especially in the childcare industry,” Guerrero-Cuellar said. “This scholarship has the potential to cover all educational expenses for students to complete their remaining degree and credential education or advance their education entirely.”

The ECACE Scholarship is the collaboration of public, community and private colleges to create a path to credentials and degrees for aspiring early childhood workers. With the help of other student aid, students can fully cover the cost of education-related expenses. For those already in the field, facilities that are licensed and license-exempt are accepted.

Guerrero-Cuellar has a strong history as an advocate for early-childhood education, helping pass House Bill 3114 which convened a committee to ensure educational equity from birth through high school. She also dedicated $54.4 million in the state budget for childhood-related education and programs.

“Childcare facilities and education centers were affected dramatically by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, we have a chance to empower students to pursue a career in this field and help current workers help Illinois families,” Guerrero-Cuellar said. “I encourage all who are eligible to apply for this funding. Not having to worry about making ends meet to achieve your education will surely make an impact on people’s lives.”
