Hurley Highlights Early Childhood Educator Scholarship Opportunity

CHICAGO – State Rep. Fran Hurley is encouraging those who work in early childhood education and want to pursue additional credentials or earn a degree in early childhood education to apply for the Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity (ECACE) Scholarship Program.

“This scholarship program exists to address the shortage of qualified early childhood educators,” Hurley said. “If you are interested in developing additional skills to help provide the best education possible for our youngest, we can use your talents here in Illinois. Right now money is still available for this scholarship, but those interested should apply as soon as they can.”

While the initial deadline for the 2022-23 scholarship has passed, money for the ECACE remains and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is encouraging residents to still apply. After other financial aid received, the ECACE can cover up to the total cost of an awardee’s attendance at participating schools – including tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies. Recipients of the scholarship are expected to continue or return to teaching early childhood care and education in Illinois after their study is completed.

“This program is targeted toward those who already have experience working within early childhood education, including those who did it previously and are now thinking of returning,” Hurley said. “We want residents to take full advantage of this program.
