EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, recently delivered donations of peanut butter and other staple food items, collected throughout the month of May, to the Cougar Cupboard food pantry at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville (SIUE).
“This food drive is emblematic of SIUE’s commitment—which I share—to making sure that food insecure students, staff, and faculty in their University community have access to basic nutrition,” Stuart said. “Our local communities really stepped up to help, and I am proud to have been a part of that. We all benefit when we stand together and support those among us who are struggling.”
The food drive was dubbed “Peanut Butter for the Pantry.” All manner of canned or non-perishable items were collected, but peanut butter was especially sought because it is a versatile staple food with a long shelf life.
Those wishing to support Cougar Cupboard, which has served the SIUE community since 2018, may reach out by email to cougarcupboard@siue.edu.
