JOLIET, Ill. – To help support seniors and prevent identity theft, state Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., D-Elwood, is partnering with Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office to host a Lunch and Learn event focused on identity theft scams and prevention tips. The event will take place June 13 at 12 p.m. at the Senior Services of Will County Center located at 251 N. Center St. in Joliet.
“Everyday actions can leave anyone vulnerable to identity theft, but seniors are often targeted. There are simple ways to prevent this crime and effectively manage the situation if identity theft occurs,” Walsh said. “This educational event is the perfect opportunity to take the necessary steps to protect yourself from fraud and keep your identity and assets safe.”
Event attendees will learn how to recognize common scams and their many variations, set up fraud alerts, security freezes and opt-outs, and report scams and manage their situation should identity theft occur.
“Identity theft is a serious crime that can devastate an individual’s finances without proper intervention and prevention,” said Walsh. “I invite everyone to join us for this learning opportunity so they can protect themselves from identity theft. Thank you to the Attorney General’s office for their partnership in bringing this important educational programming to our community.”
