Moylan-Sponsored Bill Promoting Illinois Businesses Advances in House

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Legislation sponsored by state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, designed to highlight Illinois businesses by requiring the state museum, among other state-owned gift shops, to only feature products made in Illinois passed the House Labor and Commerce Committee last week.

“It is common sense to require gift shops and concession stands supported by Illinois taxpayer dollars to only sell products made here in Illinois,” Moylan said. “We should be promoting businesses in our own state, not out-of-state businesses or overseas companies.”

Moylan’s House Bill 2764, also referred to as “Made in Illinois” bill would require the Department of Natural Resources and the Historic Preservation Agency to only sell products that are made in Illinois. The most prominent location would be the Illinois State Museum. Moylan’s bipartisan measure is a way to help highlight some of the businesses that manufacture goods throughout the state.  As visitors stop by the museum to visit some of the interesting displays featuring the history of our state, they will also have the opportunity to explore and purchase some merchandise made by Illinois workers at Illinois businesses.

“I have been fighting in Springfield for the passage of bills that lift-up middle-class families and promote the creation of good paying jobs,” Moylan said. “My measure is one way we can help ensure Illinois products are being promoted, which helps preserve jobs here in our state.”
