JOLIET, Ill. – State Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., D-Elwood, in collaboration with Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s Office, is hosting an educational event on health care fraud on Monday, May 16 at 1 p.m. at the Senior Services of Will County Center located at 251 N. Center St. in Joliet.
“The health care system can be confusing and difficult to navigate, leaving many people vulnerable to fraud,” said Walsh. “I invite senior citizens to join us for this educational program to learn how to protect yourself from health care fraud and how to manage the situation if health care fraud occurs.”
Every year, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office handles thousands of health care complaints and recovers millions of dollars on behalf of consumers in out-of-pocket health care costs. At this event, residents will learn how the Health Care Bureau can help them understand their health plans and their rights; challenge health plan decisions or denials; correct health plan or provider errors; and recover out-of-pocket expenses when wrongfully charged.
“Health care fraud can happen to anyone and its effects can be devastating to a person’s health and finances,” Walsh said. “But fraud can be prevented and managed with the proper resources. I will always work to connect my residents with the educational opportunities and resources they need to protect themselves from fraud and lead healthier lives.”
