Manley Reaffirms Women’s Right to Choose

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — As part of her ongoing support of women’s rights, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, supported a package of legislative measures to defend women’s bodily autonomy and reproductive health care rights.

“Any decision regarding reproductive health care is incredibly personal, and should be made without government interference,” Manley said. “Women deserve the right to make their own health care decisions, which is why I will always support a woman’s right to choose.”

As reproductive health care rights are under attack across the nation, Illinois stands strong in its commitment to protecting the fundamental right to safe and legal reproductive health care free from excessive government restrictions. Manley voted for House Resolution 789 to bring further awareness to the importance of reproductive rights and to show Illinois leads the nation in protecting and respecting women.

Underpinning the importance of reproductive rights is the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade, which protects a woman’s right to seek out reproductive health care. Manley voted for House Resolution 790 to support the decision, which is in danger of being overturned. House Resolution 790 is a strong reminder of Illinois’ support for this essential landmark decision.

“A government’s job is to respect and protect its citizens, not control their personal health care decisions,” said Manley. “In Illinois, we stand up for women’s rights, especially their right to decide what happens to their body and health.”
