NAPERVILLE, Ill. – With the holiday shopping season upon us, state Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, is reminding parents to be mindful of purchasing toys that may be hazardous for young children and to familiarize themselves with product recalls.
“As we all start our holiday shopping, it’s important to be cautious of items that were recalled due to injury hazards,” said Yang Rohr. “Not all product recalls make the news, so secondhand sellers may unintentionally offer items that pose a danger to your family.”
Every year during the holiday season, the Attorney General’s Office issues an annual Safe Shopping Guide that highlights hazardous toys, children’s products and household items that have been recalled over the past year to help Illinois families ensure a safe shopping season. The Attorney General’s Safe Shopping Guide includes detailed descriptions and photographs of children’s products that were recalled, from popular children’s toys and games to children’s furniture, cribs and strollers. To view the guide, individuals can visit https://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/2021_Safe_Shopping_Guide.pdf.
“Some products that haven’t been recalled can still lead to safety issues, and the last thing any family should have to worry about during the holiday season is an emergency room visit brought on by a new toy,” said Yang Rohr. “The attorney general’s annual holiday safe shopping guide is a helpful resource to keep children safe, and I encourage parents to use it to make sure they don’t have any recalled products in their home.”
