Collins Highlights Reopening of Rental Payment Program in December

CHICAGO – Due to the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) delaying the reopening of the Illinois Rental Program (ILRPP), state Rep. Lakesia Collins, D-Chicago, is highlighting the opportunity for residents to apply for emergency assistance to help with their housing costs.

“Due to constraints on the application platform, residents will have more time to apply for vital rental assistance,” said Collins. “This program will help reduce evictions and make sure residents can keep a roof over their heads this winter.”

ILPRR provides direct funding to support tenants unable to pay their rent due to ongoing COVID-19 related costs or losses of income.  The original reopening date was moved from Nov. 8, 2021 to Dec. 6, 2021. Rent owed from June 2020 through Aug. 2022 can qualify for payment under ILRPP funds. Eligibility requirements can be found at illinoishousinghelp.org. 

“As we approach the coming winter months, affordable housing is more important now than ever,” Collins said. “I encourage anyone struggling to pay their rent due to the ongoing pandemic to apply for this assistance.”
