ROCKFORD, Ill. – In order to help keep gun owners and their families safe, state Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, hosted a free Gun Lock Giveaway with Machesney Park Mayor Steve Johnson, Loves Park Mayor Greg Jury, the Loves Park Police Department and the Winnebago County Sherriff’s Office last Saturday.
“Safely storing firearms is a key component of being a responsible gun owner,” said Vella. “Gun locks and other storage devices such as a gun safe are an important way for those who own firearms to keep themselves and their families protected from accidents. In order to keep everyone safe it is critical that we are working to ensure that guns are not falling into the wrong hands, and gun locks are an excellent way to achieve that. Going forward, I am prepared to continue to work both in our community and in Springfield to promote gun safety while protecting the rights of responsible gun owners.”
At the event, attendees were able to receive a free gun lock, which stops firearms from being able to fire while locked, and a tutorial on how to properly use the gun lock. Vella’s constituent service staff also assisted residents with their Firearm Owner Identification Card and Concealed Carry License applications.
