ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – In his efforts to bring awareness to helpful programs for local residents, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is highlighting the opening of the expanded Low-Income Household Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).
“The devastating impact of the pandemic is still being felt across our community,” said Yingling. “With support from LIHEAP, we give a helping hand to families that are struggling to make ends meet. I want to make sure that residents are aware of this assistance and take the opportunity to apply while it’s still available.”
Funds designated from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) will be distributed through the LIHEAP initiative to help pay for water, energy and other utilities. The relief is a continuation of the same program brought on in 2020 and is now open to a broader range of income levels to ensure an even greater amount of aid can be provided. To apply and see if your family qualifies, please visit www2.illinois.gov/dceo/CommunityServices.
“LIHEAP makes sure families get the help they need to keep the lights on, avoid debt and allow them to focus on recovery,” said Yingling. “We must do our best to share this crucial information with as many people as we can to ensure people have access to resources they need.”
