OAK LAWN, Ill. – State Rep. Kelly Burke, D-Evergreen Park is reminding constituents that Illinoisans will be required to make an appointment for behind-the-wheel road tests, REAL IDs, standard driver’s licenses and state ID cards at Chicagoland Secretary of State facilities. Vehicle services, such as renewing a license plate sticker or applying for a vehicle title, do not require an appointment.

“The Secretary of State’s office is taking the right steps to keep us safe at their offices during a pandemic requiring a scheduled appointment in advance of a visit,” Burke said. “By requiring appointments Jesse White’s office is keeping us safe and helping to expedite a process that often feels lengthy. I urge local families to take advantage of this new, streamlined approach to renewing your license.”

The majority of driver services facilities in the Chicago region now require appointments. All appointment-based facilities have the same days and hours of operation: Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Customers can visit www.cyberdriveillinois.com to schedule an appointment up to 10 days in advance.

Seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities and expectant mothers will be served as walk-ins at all of the designated appointment facilities, but it is recommended that they make an appointment. Illinoisans can schedule an appointment at www.cyberdriveillinois.com or by calling the appointment helpline at 844-817-4649. When visiting a facility, customers and employees are required to wear masks.

“The closest local facilities, in Bridgeview and Midlothian, are both open for business by appointment,” Burke said. “I know first-hand how frustrating the process of license renewal can be, but with the option of making appointments for most services, residents can now stay safe while being more efficient with their own time, which will ultimately make the license renewal process better for customers.”
