Manley Continues Fight for Increased Funding to End Alzheimer’s Disease

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – As part of her work to raise awareness and bring an end to all forms of dementia, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, passed a new law that will extend an important funding source for the Alzheimer’s Awareness Fund through the Illinois lottery.

“As our state has continued to battle the public health crisis caused by COVID-19, resources for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers have suffered,” said Manley. “We must address the vital needs of Illinois families and caregivers who face daily emotional, physical and financial challenges that come with all forms of dementia-related illnesses.”

Manley’s legislation, House Bill 848, extends the Illinois scratch-off lottery game “End of Alzheimer’s Begins with Me.” The revenue of this game provides an important funding stream for grants for Alzheimer’s care, support, education and awareness programs. Manley’s legislation was recently signed into law, and is a part of her long term advocacy for policies that help individuals facing Alzheimer’s, which includes the creation of the “Silver Search” program.

“To ensure that no one is left without the medical care that they need, it is important that we are providing ample resources to organizations that help those with Alzheimer’s,” said Manley. “I would like to thank Gov. Pritzker for signing this legislation and ensuring those suffering from Alzheimer’s are able to receive the care they deserve.”
