GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is encouraging small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to apply for the Back to Business Grants now available through the state and the Department of Commerce and Economic Activity (DCEO).

“Supporting small businesses is vital for the recovery of our local economy, and I am glad we are investing in our local businesses and job creators with the Back to Business Grants,” said Mason. “While we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important we also protect the livelihoods of those in our community.”

Back to Business Grants are now available to small businesses affected by pandemic to help recuperate loses and to hire staff. The $250 million program through DCEO will prioritize awarding grants to businesses in industries and geographic areas most negatively impacted by the pandemic and $25 million has been set aside for businesses that applied but did not receive funding through the Business Interruption Grant program. Businesses with revenue less than $5 million will also take priority. Back to Business Grants will range from $5,000 to $150,000 depending on the losses experienced.

Businesses and organization leaders can learn more about Back to Business Grants and other available programs by visiting dceo.illinois.gov.

“These grants can help our local businesses not just survive, but thrive for years to come,” said Mason. “Small businesses together make up one of the largest employers in the state and are fueling our state’s economic recovery. The Back to Business Grants are an essential part of Illinois’ economic recovery.”
