SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – As part of his efforts to increase access to critical medical services, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, fought to expand access to contraceptives for all women.
“It is important to ensure affordable healthcare remains a focal point in our work down in Springfield,” said Yingling. “There should not be complicated barriers for women to have access to the health care they need. To ensure that everyone, regardless of their economic situation, has access to quality health care, we must remove the extra hurdles currently in place for finding contraceptive solutions.”
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, access to contraception care is a crucial aspect of women’s health care. To ensure women have easy access to this important piece of care, Yingling voted for House Bill 135, which allows women to receive birth control pills and other forms of contraception without the need to schedule an appointment with a doctor, making it easier for individuals with financial hardship to move forward with a more inclusive coverage process.
“Removing structural red-tape against birth control access is an important piece in ensuring women have access to the health care they deserve,” said Yingling. “I will continue to support measures that help patients with their pharmaceutical and medical needs.”
