Yang Rohr Highlights Expansion of Child Care Assistance, Addressing Needs of Families and Businesses

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – As the Illinois economy continues to accelerate, state Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, is highlighting significant increases in childcare assistance that aim to help families and address widespread labor shortages.

“The pandemic demonstrated just how foundational reliable child care is to a well-functioning economy and labor supply,” said Yang Rohr. “It is very important for families to be able to find quality child care, as it allows for parents to work and provide while their children are being cared for.” 

Yang Rohr is highlighting the Department of Human Services’ implementation of the following changes to the Child Care Assistance program (CCAP) that were instituted July 1:

• Reducing family payments: 80% of all families will see a reduction in their monthly co-pay.
• Increasing reimbursement rates for all CCAP providers to help them recover from the pandemic.
• Maintaining CCAP families’ eligibility by expanding the cap on family incomes as they grow beyond the Federal Poverty Level.

“Quality child care goes hand-in-hand with the health of our children and families as well as the continued recovery of our local economy,” said Yang Rohr. “Working families, regardless of income, should have access to comprehensive child care, and the changes to the Child Care Assistance Program will have immediately far reaching and positive impacts for all those in Illinois.”
