NAPERVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, is partnering with Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs for a college savings plan seminar on Tuesday, August 10 at 6 p.m. via Facebook Live.
“Higher education is expensive and a financial burden for many, but planning ahead for a child’s education with a college savings account can be extremely beneficial,” said Yang Rohr. “With many savings plans on the market, it is important to know about the resources and savings plans that are available to you.”
Illinois’ Bright Start 529 College Savings Plan is one of only three 529 plans in the nation rated ‘gold’ by Morningstar, a financial services firm. Yang Rohr is partnering with Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs and Morningstar analyst, Madeline Hume, for a conversation about the basics and frequently asked questions of Illinois’ 529 plan, such as the benefits of investing in a college savings plan and what sets Illinois’ plan apart from its peers.
“We are lucky here in Illinois that our 529 college savings plan is highly rated, offering families of all income levels a reliable avenue to set aside money for college,” said Yang Rohr. “Before you start investing, it is important to review your options and understand the pros and cons, so I encourage any parent looking to start a college savings fund to attend my upcoming event.”
