SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, issued the following statement after Gov. JB Pritzker signed a new Medicaid expansion bill into law that includes a measure for increased Medicaid services to undocumented patients of organ transplants:

“Members of our community should not be locked out of proper healthcare just because of their citizen status. Undocumented individuals who have received organ transplants will now have access to proper medication to aid them in their recovery, and I hope that we continue to find ways to ensure everyone in our community, regardless of residency status, can access essential healthcare services.

“I thank members of the legislature, the governor, and various stakeholders for coming together to create a law that will bring long-needed improvements for working families and those in need of sensible healthcare.”
