ROCKFORD, Ill. – In response to Moody’s increase of Illinois’s credit rating, state Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, issued the following statement:
“After passing a budget that prioritized sustainably paying down our debts and meeting our fiscal responsibilities without increasing taxes on middle-class families, it is clear that Illinois is on the right track toward fiscal stability. For the first time in 20 years, Illinois’s credit rating is being upgraded, signaling a positive change in the way that our state’s finances are being handled. Not only will this upgrade immediately help the fiscal situation for our state government, but it will also help ease financial burdens that would have otherwise fallen on taxpayers.
“While this news shows that we are trending in the right direction, there is still much more that needs to be done. Years of corruption and fiscal mismanagement by Springfield politicians have created many problems that still need to be addressed. During this past legislative session, I worked on passing my first budget, which helped bring fiscal stability to Illinois, as well as cracking down on politicians who take advantage of taxpayers for their own personal gain. I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of taxpayers and restoring fiscal sustainability to our state government.”
