WOODRIDGE, Ill. – After the recent tornado that damaged several communities in the western suburbs, State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, is drawing attention to several resources to help storm damage victims.

“It is devastating to see the amount of destruction done to our communities,” Avelar said. “I’m incredibly thankful to the many organizations and community members working tirelessly to help those affected. I want all residents to know that my office is a resource for whatever residents may need help with. Additionally, many local organizations and community groups have stepped up in this time of need.”

  • The Village of Woodridge is organizing volunteers to help with clean-up efforts and other programs. Those interested in volunteering should go to the Village’s website at: https://www.woodridgeil.gov/.
  • The American Red Cross has set up an emergency shelter at Thomas Jefferson Junior High located at 7200 Janes Ave. in Woodridge. The shelter will accept any residents displaced by the recent tornado. Those needing assistance should contact the Red Cross at 877-597-0747.
  • The West Suburban Community Pantry located at 6809 Hobson Valley Drive, #118 in Woodridge, is accepting donations Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. A list of acceptable donations and a link for monetary donations can be found at: wscpantry.org.
  • The Woodridge Rotary Club is accepting monetary donations that will be redistributed to the Woodridge community and specifically residents disproportionately affected by the storm. To donate, visit the Rotary’s website at: https://woodridgerotary.org/content.aspx?page_id=305&club_id=812436&item_id=8247 and indicate “Tornado Response” in the comment field.
  • Hope’s Front Door, a local non-profit, is collecting food vouchers, transportation vouchers, toiletry items, Goodwill Certificates, prescription medications, emergency oral health care, medical supplies and eyeglasses. Those looking to receive supplies must first call Hope’s Front Door at 630-322-9803.
