GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee is sharing a scholarship opportunity being offered by the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL) and encouraging local women ages 25 and older to apply.

“Pursuing a college degree is a great way to expand your education or advance your career, but the high price tag on tuition can be a serious deterrent for people who want to avoid taking on large amounts of student loans,” Mason said. “For older students who don’t have access to a high school teacher or career counselor to help them with the process of applying for scholarships, it can be challenging to secure financial aid. That’s why I’m glad to be sharing a scholarship opportunity we’re offering through the Conference of Women Legislators that’s specifically targeted at supporting non-traditional college students.”

Mason is a member of COWL, a non-profit organization made up of a bipartisan, bicameral coalition of female lawmakers from across the state. To be eligible to receive a COWL scholarship, applicants must be women who are at least 25-years-old and plan to be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours at an accredited Illinois college or university this fall. COWL will award 10 scholarships in amounts of up to $2,500 each. Applications are being accepted through the end of the month. To apply or find more information, visit https://www.cowlil.com/.

“Scholarships can significantly offset the cost of going to school and make it easier for people from all walks of life to earn a college degree,” Mason said. “I encourage all women who are continuing their education or pursuing their first degree later in life to consider applying for one of these scholarships.”
