CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. – To help students access financial scholarships, state Rep. Suzanne Ness, D-Crystal Lake, is urging local women to apply for the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL) scholarship, which provides up to $2,500 in funding to help women over 25 who are going back to college.

“The decision to go to college is one that will have incredible payoff, but for many, the cost is an extreme financial burden,” said Ness. “The Conference of Women Legislators scholarship is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are working to complete their education and achieve their career ambitions.”

COWL is a bipartisan, bicameral non-profit organization of women legislators in the Illinois General Assembly. The COWL Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship that covers tuition and other expenses up to $2,500 for the 2021-2022 academic year. The scholarship is awarded to 10 women who are over the age of 25 who are Illinois residents and are taking at least six semester hours either in-person or online at an Illinois accredited college or university. Applications are due on May 1 and individuals who are interested in applying can visit the COWL website at https://cowl.formstack.com/forms/cowl_scholarship_application.

“Now more than ever with financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical that we continue to provide opportunities to Illinois’ students,” continued Ness. “I encourage local women who are heading back to school to apply for this scholarship and get valuable assistance as they work toward their goals.”
