Mussman Alerts Residents to Vaccine-Related Scams

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – As the COVID-19 vaccine continues to be rolled out throughout Illinois, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, is warning residents to be aware of potential vaccine-related scams.

“The recent rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine is extremely encouraging, and now over 2 million Illinoisans have received their first dose,” said Mussman. “I know many residents are anxiously awaiting their turn to be vaccinated, which unfortunately means scammers are hoping to take advantage of residents by promising early access to the vaccine in exchange for money or personal information.”

Mussman is encouraging residents to be mindful about vaccine-related information as the FBI has received reports of scammers advertising fake COVID-19 vaccines. There are several indicators that may point toward vaccine-related information being fraudulent, including if it offers early access, requires payment up front, or makes reference to a government-mandated vaccination program. Residents who encounter coronavirus-related scams can report them using the Illinois attorney general’s complaint form at https://ccformsubmission.ilattorneygeneral.net/.

“Like in most situations, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you have concerns about the validity of vaccine-related information you have received, I encourage you to reach out to our local health department to help identify scams,” continued Mussman. “While we are coming up on a year of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, many residents are feeling burnt out and fatigued, but we must stay vigilant in abiding by safe practices until it is our turn to be vaccinated.”

Mussman represents the 56th District, which contains portions of Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Roselle, Rolling Meadows and Palatine.
