ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With his recent reappointment as Counties and Townships Committee Chair, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is reaffirming his efforts to reform local government in order to better serve their residents.

“Over the past year, counties and townships have faced massive challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Yingling. “As we enter a new session, it is critical that we work with local governments to ensure that they are getting the support they need while also considering ways to make these units of government more efficient for taxpayers.”

Yingling has served on the Counties and Townships Committee since 2015 and has been chair since 2019. As the former Avon Township Supervisor, he has used his knowledge of local government to advocate for good government reforms. Since serving on the committee, Yingling has supported a number of bills to make local government more taxpayer-friendly, including consolidating redundant units of government and barring politicians from receiving multiple taxpayer-funded pensions. He also pushed legislation to have Lake County voters have more say over their county government by making the Lake County Assessor an elected position.

“Now more than ever, people are relying on local government to help them through these difficult times, as shown by the vaccination distribution efforts that counties are leading,” said Yingling. “I look forward to continuing my work on ensuring that these vital units of government are able to serve their constituents to the best of their ability.”
