Moylan Updates Residents on COVID-19 Vaccination Plan

DES PLAINES, Ill. – As residents begin to receive vaccine shots to protect them from COVID-19, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, wants residents to understand the rollout plan for Illinois.

“While vaccine supply is currently limited, there is light at the end of the tunnel,” Moylan said. “In the early stages of vaccine distribution, we have to prioritize those who are at the highest risk of exposure to COVID-19 and those with an elevated risk to the virus itself.”

The current vaccine distribution plan is composed of two phases, with three sub phases within phase one. Currently, the state is in Phase 1A, administering vaccines to health care personnel and long term care facility residents. Phase 1B will soon administer vaccines to individuals over the age of 65 and frontline essential workers, with the City of Chicago set to begin shots for this group on Jan. 25. Phase 1C will administer vaccines to all individuals between the ages of 16 and 64 with underlying medical conditions which could compromise them to the virus. Phase 2 will administer vaccines to all individuals over the age of 16. All phases will be rolled out as the vaccination supply becomes more readily available. “The vaccination process will take time to administer, but the virus will not be going anywhere in the meantime,” Moylan said. “We must continue to adhere to public safety protocols and social distancing guidelines while the vaccine is distributed. While the vaccination process moves forward, we must look to support essential workers and take steps to strengthen our economy by securing relief for small businesses.”
