SPRINGFIELD, IL After being sworn in to the 102nd General Assembly on Wednesday, State Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, issued the following statement:

“As we begin this new General Assembly, it is clear that more work must be done to get Illinois back on track toward a better future. Providing critical relief to those hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to be my highest priority, and I remain committed to expanding access to health care, securing support for our local businesses and providing assistance and protections for essential employees.

“Access to quality, affordable health care is more important than ever, and as COVID-19 continues to spread, it is absolutely crucial that we secure funding for health care services and medical facilities that provide needed care to our families.

“Businesses in our community have been devastated by the effects of the pandemic, and providing resources for business owners is one of the first steps we can take toward economic recovery. We must also invest in high-wage jobs that put Illinois families back to work, and ensure assistance for displaced workers and those whose income has been severely impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

“While essential workers and medical professionals are on the frontlines of the pandemic, we must safeguard the protections we put in place last year and ensure additional assistance for the brave men and women who are putting their lives on the line each day to help us navigate unprecedented challenges.

“Additionally, passing a responsible state budget that continues to fund the resources our community needs most is critical to building back a stronger Illinois. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address the challenges we face in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I will continue fighting for the issues that matter most to our families.
