ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With the Secretary of State’s (SOS) offices temporarily closing due to worsening COVID-19 conditions, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is encouraging residents to take advantage of expiration date extensions for driver’s license and ID cards by using the SOS’s online services.
“With the amount of disruption to daily life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that our institutions do everything they can to be as flexible and helpful as possible,” said Yingling. “I applaud the Secretary of State’s decision to extend these expirations dates, and I encourage residents to utilize this opportunity.”
With the SOS’s offices being closed until Dec. 7, expiration dates for driver’s licenses and ID cards will be extended until June 1, 2021. Residents who are eligible to renew their driver’s licenses online will receive a letter with a PIN number needed to complete the renewal online. Commercial Driver License holders and commercial permit holders will not have their expirations extended due to federal requirements. While the facilities may be closed, residents can visit www.cyberdriveillinois.com to renew license plate stickers, driver’s licenses, and ID cards, as well as other services.
“Using the Secretary of State’s online services is a convenient way to avoid crowds and stay safe,” continued Yingling. “We must do everything that we can to slow the spread of this virus. I will continue highlighting ways that people can continue their normal routine from the safety of their home.”
