Costa Howard Encourages Safe Participation In Small Business Saturday

LOMBARD – With many locally owned businesses struggling to stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic, State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, is encouraging residents to find smart, safe ways to shop local and support Small Business Saturday this weekend.

“There’s never been a more important time to support our local businesses,” said Costa Howard.

“This year, our locally owned businesses are struggling because of COVID-19, and they need our help – and our holiday spending – to help them weather this storm.”

Small Business Saturday was created 10 years ago to encourage consumers to purchase holiday gifts from their local retailers, which keeps their dollars close to home and helps to support jobs in their communities.

Costa Howard urged residents to observe all CDC-recommended safety guidelines as they shop this weekend. “Everybody needs to wear a mask and observe social distancing,” Costa Howard said. “Before you go shopping, call your local retailers to ask about capacity limits, and ask for curbside pickup or other accommodations to help you avoid the crowds.

“We are all relying on each other to get through this pandemic,” Costa Howard added. “By finding smart, safe ways to support local businesses during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, we can give them a better chance to survive these tough times and keep on contributing to our communities.”
