DES PLAINES, Ill. – As small businesses continue to struggle throughout the COVID-19 crisis, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is urging business owners in need of assistance to apply for a new bill assistance program from ComEd.
“COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc on communities throughout Illinois, and during this resurgence we are experiencing we have to be all the more prepared to support and assist small business owners with the tremendous burden that this pandemic has proven to be,” Moylan said. “Small businesses are what drives our economy forward, and we cannot afford to lose the economic stimulation that they provide to our communities.”
The new ComEd Small Business Assistance Program will provide small businesses which are past due on their electric bill a one-time grant equal to 30% of their total balance up to $1,000. In addition to the grant, small businesses whose power has not been shut off may set up a payment plan for the next six months for their remaining balance due. Small business customers who wish to apply for this payment assistance program can call 877-426-6331 or visit https://www.comed.com/MyAccount/CustomerSupport/Pages/SmallBusinessAssistanceProgram.aspx.
“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to plague small businesses, so we have to do everything we can to support them during these unprecedented times,” Moylan said. “This new program will allow some breathing room for businesses who are behind on their electric bill so that they can have more time and a lower cost to their business.”
