Moylan Applauds Medicaid Provider Funding Amid COVID-19 Crisis

DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, commends the recent distribution of $140 million to Medicaid providers aimed at offsetting the costs of COVID-19 related care and equipment.

“This is a public health crisis unlike any we have ever seen, and we need to make sure that high quality health care is readily available,” Moylan said. “Our medical workers have been working tirelessly and have shown time and time again that they are heroes. The doctors, nurses and all other medical staff who have displayed such selflessness throughout this pandemic have my unwavering support and sincere gratitude.”

The $140 million distributed by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) will help Medicaid providers cover the cost of hazard pay for frontline workers, personal protective equipment and many other COVID-19 related costs. $58.8 million will serve providers within communities which have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. In this first round of funding $68 million was given to long-term care facilities, $50 million was given to federally qualified health centers and $23.5 million was given to safety net hospitals. Future funding will require providers to submit an application to HFS which will be available at a later date.

“Health care providers are in serious need of this funding opportunity, as the unbudgeted costs related to COVID-19 care have risen dramatically,” Moylan said. “We need to ensure that health care providers and medical workers receive the resources needed to continue protecting our communities and battling against COVID-19.”
