SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Fred Crespo, D-Hoffman Estates, issued the following statement after Gov. Bruce Rauner’s State of the State address Wednesday:
“After listening to the governor this afternoon, I think we can all agree that we must work to push for a better business climate in Illinois. First and foremost, we must cut operating costs for businesses. This can be accomplished by cutting the corporate income tax by 50 percent. When relief is provided to businesses, it allows for the state’s economy to grow. In addition, large corporations should be required to pay their fair share in income tax. This would allow small and medium sized businesses in Illinois more of an opportunity to compete with corporations who do not currently pay their fair share in taxes.
“As chair of the Appropriations – General Services Committee, I have worked diligently to bring back fiscal responsibility to the state. In the upcoming months, it is my priority to ensure that our government passes a balanced budget so that we can begin to pay back the billions of dollars of bill backlog caused by the governor’s budget impasse.
“Illinois has gone far too long without a responsible, balanced budget. While there are many hurdles that must be overcome, it is my priority to ensure that we end this budget impasse. Vital services that people throughout the state rely upon are not being funded. People in Illinois have suffered far too long as a result of this. Compromise and negotiation are key to passing a fiscally responsible budget that our families deserve. I look forward to hearing Gov. Rauner’s budget address, and I am ready to move forward in a positive manner.”
