CICERO, Ill. – As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, state Rep. Lisa Hernandez, D-Cicero, is highlighting the opening of a mobile COVID-19 testing site in Cicero along with a food drive presented by the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Assistance with completing the census questionnaire will also be provided via drive-in.
“As we enter the new phase of reopening, we must remain cautious of the danger that is present whenever we go outside. However, I encourage residents to take advantage of every resource that is available to them. This combined event will provide a welcoming breath of relief amid this public health crisis.”
The Illinois Department of Public Health is now offering a free mobile COVID-19 testing site at Unity Junior High School in Cicero, located at 2115 S. 54th Ave. The Greater Chicago Food Depository will also be hosting a drive-in food drive. Staff from the Census Bureau will also be available to assist with completing the questionnaire. Each part of the event will coincide.
This event will be available on the next two Thursdays (July 23 and July 30) from 8 a.m. until noon, or until supplies run out. A phone number and name are required to receive testing results. Photo identification and proof of insurance are helpful, but not required. The house address and the number of people within a household must be provided to partake in the food drive. One box of each food item per family. Walk-ins are welcome; however, it is advised that individuals who arrive in their vehicle remain inside to follow social distancing guidelines.
“This combined COVID-19 testing, food drive, and census event is a great opportunity for people to take advantage of the resources being provided during these unprecedented times,” said Hernandez. “We will continue working to provide the resources necessary to keep our community safe.”
