“While state and federal leaders extended the income tax filing deadline to provide relief for families facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the new deadline of July 15 is quickly approaching,” said Mussman. “With less than two weeks until the deadline, it is important to make sure you have all of the information you need to file your taxes.”
The extended tax filing deadline gave Illinois residents and business owners an extra 90 days to file to provide flexibility for those that may have lost income or faced financial hardships during the outbreak of COVID-19. The new filing deadline for both state and federal taxes is Wednesday, July 15.
“Waiting until the last minute to file your taxes is unwise, and doing so past the deadline can result in late-filing penalties,” continued Mussman. “I encourage residents to file their taxes as soon as possible to avoid encountering any issues that could cause a delay.”
