SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – To honor the meaningful contributions of local seniors, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, is encouraging residents to nominate a senior they know for the Illinois Department on Aging’s (IDoA) 2020 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame Awards.

“There is a lot of knowledge and wisdom that can be gained by honoring and recognizing the contributions of the older adults in our lives, including our friends, neighbors and loved ones,” said Mussman. “Honoring the special seniors that reside in our community is one way that we can help uplift one another as we continue to face challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Mussman is encouraging area residents to nominate a senior they know for the 2020 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame Awards. Nominations are accepted in the following categories: community service, education, labor force and performance/graphic arts. The deadline for nominations is Monday, August 31 and can be submitted by visiting the Illinois Department on Aging’s website at www.illinois.gov/aging or by calling the Senior HelpLine at 800-252-8966.

“Celebrating the seniors in our lives and across the state is a great way to honor their legacy while also pointing toward a hopeful future, which is something I think we could all benefit from, especially during this difficult time,” continued Mussman. “The meaningful contributions of local seniors deserve recognition, so I encourage residents to nominate a senior they know!”

Mussman represents the 56th District, which contains portions of Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Roselle, Rolling Meadows and Palatine.
