AURORA, Ill. – As the state continues its process to safely reopen its private and public sectors, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, has been appointed to the Restore Illinois Collaborative Commission to provide insight on how to further reopen local and regional economies.
“I am excited to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle from both the House and Senate on a comprehensive plan to safely and efficiently reestablish our local economies,” said Kifowit. “While many families and local businesses are still reeling amidst this global pandemic, it is important that we work together to provide a safe plan for businesses to reopen while limiting the risk of a resurgence of the virus.”
The Restore Illinois Collaborative Commission is a bipartisan, bicameral group of state lawmakers that will be tasked to participate and provide input on plans to revive various sectors of the state’s economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The commission will work with the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to help lawmakers address revitalization efforts in the state’s economy. As part of the effort, DCEO will be required to provide monthly reports to the General Assembly on its progress with recovery plans.
“It is important that we responsibly continue to reopen sectors of our state and local economies,” said Kifowit. “As reopening continues to be rolled out, local employers who seek immediate relief should know that they may be eligible for a share of $90 million in state emergency loans and grants to help cover payroll, rent and other expenses.”
