ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With many residents facing challenges while in public spaces due to the COVID-19 pandemic, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is highlighting a new initiative giving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients the option to buy groceries online.

“While grocery stores are open during this pandemic, it is not necessarily feasible for everyone to enter public spaces,” Yingling said. “SNAP recipients deserve to be able to stay safe and not leave their home to get the things they need to survive, just like other residents across the state.”

Starting June 2, all Link card holders will be able to purchase their groceries online through Walmart and Amazon. Additional vendors may be added to the program in the future. The option to purchase food online will become a permanent feature of SNAP and will not be removed after the COVID-19 pandemic is over. “As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it is important to provide residents with resources to keep themselves, their families and the public safe,” Yingling said. “This program is a good step towards that goal, and I look forward to finding more ways to help provide resources to support our community.”
