Mason Supports Reopening of Outdoor Service at Restaurants, Encourages Residents to Dine Local

GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is applauding Gov. Pritzker’s decision to allow on-site dining to resume at outside seating areas at restaurants and bars during Phase 3 of his Restore Illinois plan. Mason is asking residents to consider making safe visits to eat at local establishments once the modified order is in effect.

“The coronavirus outbreak has impacted virtually every area of our economy, and our restaurants and bars have been hit especially hard,” Mason said. “While it has been helpful that restaurants and bars have been able to continue fulfilling carry-out and delivery orders, those services alone don’t provide nearly enough revenue to keep small establishments afloat in the long term.”

Since the institution of Gov. Pritzker’s first executive order on March 21, dine-in service at restaurants and bars has been prohibited in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. On Wednesday, the governor announced that all Illinois restaurants and bars would be allowed to resume on-site service at outdoor seating areas as early as March 29.

“I’m glad to see Gov. Pritzker decided to allow restaurants and bars to resume some dine-in service during Phase 3. This change will give our local economy a much-needed boost, while keeping safety a top priority,” Mason said. “If you’re healthy and able, I encourage you to make a safe visit to one of the many wonderful restaurants or bars in our community once we enter Phase 3.”​
