RED BUD, Ill. – State Rep. Nathan Reitz, D-Steeleville, released this statement following the end of the special session of the Illinois State Legislature:

“The COVID-19 pandemic, and the harm it has done to the Illinois economy, has had a huge and lasting impact on our community. I want to thank all of our frontline workers, including the brave nurses, doctors and first responders who have been protecting us all.

“My priority is a safe return to regular operations for local business and getting Illinoisans back to work while our state continues to combat this disease. That starts with a budget that is realistic about the challenges we face and the needs of our working families and senior citizens. The budget I passed ensures we have the flexibility to help families dealing with the economic effects of this crisis, while also establishing stricter oversight of state spending, so we know the administration is not spending money we don’t have. I also worked across the aisle to pass a worker safety package backed by business and labor that will protect our first responders, support those affected by COVID-19 on the job, and help businesses reopen with confidence.

“There is still much more to do as we continue to recover and restore our economy. I will continue to fight in Springfield to be a strong voice to make sure that Southern Illinois and its residents receive all that they deserve as our communities and local economy recover.”
