CHICAGO – In response to the recent snowstorms and frigid temperatures, state Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, is taking the time to highlight the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which offers financial assistance to help cover utility services for families in need.

“In light of recent weather trends, I wanted to take the time to draw attention to this vital program for residents who may need their services,” Buckner said. “No one should ever be forced to choose between keeping food on the table and keeping their heat on. The LIHEAP program has served as lifeline for local residents throughout the state, helping them get through the tough winter season.”

Rep. Buckner is encouraging local residents to look into the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which offers assistance to families by subsidizing their winter energy bills. The 2019 – 2020 application period is currently open, and applications are being accepted until funding is exhausted.

For information on eligibility or to apply, local residents can visit www.LIHEAPIllinois.com or call the state’s toll-free LIHEAP hotline at 877-411-WARM (877-411-9276.

“I strongly encourage families and seniors in our community to take advantage of this crucial program,” Buckner said. “With everything going on, the last thing you should worry about is whether or not you can keep yourself and your loved ones warm this winter.”

Buckner’s 26th District contains all or parts of Bronzeville, Gold Coast, Grand Boulevard, Greater Grand Crossing, Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, South Chicago, South Loop, South Shore, Streeterville and Woodlawn.
