Hurley Highlights Need for Property Tax Relief as Governor Delivers State of State

CHICAGO – As Gov. J.B. Pritzker delivered his annual State of the State address, state Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago released the below statement to highlight her priorities to continue support for public safety, vulnerable populations like seniors and individuals with developmental disabilities, and the need for real property tax relief for local homeowners.

“As the governor lays out his plan to address the many issues facing our state, I am proud of the progress Illinois has made in the last year. I am proud to have supported a bipartisan, balanced budget that funds critical programs for first responders and public safety, Meals on Wheels for seniors, and other important programs.

“While Illinois has made great progress, there is still much more work to do. Homeowners in Illinois face an enormous tax burden that has forced many families out of their homes, especially impacting seniors, many of whom live on a fixed income. As a member of the Property Tax Relief Task Force I have worked to expand exemptions and find creative solutions to address Illinois’ property tax problem, and will continue working toward true relief for local homeowners.

“I am proud to have passed important reforms and help our state move forward, but there is still much more work to be done to build a stronger Illinois that puts middle-class families first. I will continue fighting for property tax relief, affordable health care and increased investments into important programs our community cares about.”
