Yednock Prepares for Legislative Session to Address COVID-19 Issues

OTTAWA, IL – State Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa is preparing for the return of legislative session since being temporarily postposed in mid-March due to safety concerns caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

“While legislators have been in our own districts doing what we can to the best of our abilities aiding our communities during the pandemic, there are serious issues that require being addressed by the full legislature, including passing a budget that prioritizes working families, and the needed relief for small businesses, employers and workers hurt from COVID-19,” said Yednock. “While there are hard decisions ahead of us, we must do what is necessary to put our state back on track.”

During the postponed session House legislators have been assigned to House Working Groups which have allowed Yednock and other representatives to continue working on some of the largest issues facing the state. The working groups have met regularly to discuss potential legislative solutions to major problems arising as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Illinois General Assembly will convene starting May 20 to address the most pressing issues facing the state.

“The conversations we have had in our working groups have been positive toward creating commonsense, bi-partisan measures to help the people of Illinois,” said Yednock. “In my conversations with local business owners, workers and families affected, it’s clear that must get the proper relief for those who need it the most. Together with my colleagues, both Republican and Democrat, we will work to find solutions to problems during this session and create sustainability for communities across the state as we get through this crisis.”
