SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Mike Halpin, D-Rock Island, is inviting local religious leaders to join him in Springfield to deliver an invocation before the Illinois House of Representatives.

“As we prepare to debate legislation, we open each session day with the pledge of allegiance and a brief invocation from one of our state’s faith leaders,” said Halpin. “This routine provides lawmakers a moment to reflect before taking on what can be emotionally-charged and complicated issues, and to commit ourselves to working in a bipartisan manner to improve our communities.”

Each day while the House is in session, a religious leader offers a brief invocation before the Illinois House of Representatives. Invocations are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, and Halpin is encouraging local religious leaders to reserve a date by contacting his constituent service office at 309-558-3612 or RepHalpin@gmail.com.

“It is my honor to host Quad-Cities residents at the Capitol, especially those who share my commitment to lifting up the most vulnerable,” said Halpin. “I would encourage any religious leader interested in delivering the invocation to contact my office to check availability for the spring session.”
