Costa Howard Recognized for Efforts to End Human Trafficking, Train Frontline Hospitality Workers to Identify Potential Crimes

LOMBARD, Ill. – State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, who successfully passed a new law to help hotel workers halt human trafficking, was recognized for her work by the American Hotel & Lodging Association at their regional event last Friday.

“Human trafficking is all around us,” said Costa Howard. “Hotel and motel workers are uniquely positioned to identify potential cases of human trafficking and to help save vulnerable women and children who are being exploited behind closed doors. Last year, I worked with the hospitality industry to pass a new law requiring training for hotel and motel staff to help them recognize and report suspected cases to the proper authorities. I’m honored by this recognition from the American Hotel & Lodging Association, and I’m committed to working side-by-side with the hospitality industry as they take proactive steps to end the scourge of human trafficking.”

Costa Howard also introduced Gov. J.B. Pritzker at the No Room for Trafficking event.

Speakers at the event mentioned the upcoming NBA All-Star Game in Chicago and noted that sex trafficking increases dramatically in host cities during major sporting events.
