Tarver Encourages COVID-19 Safety Measures; IDPH Updates for Information

CHICAGO – State Rep. Curtis J. Tarver II, D-Chicago, is encouraging all citizens of the state to follow updates given by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and to follow the correct safety precautions to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“This is a pandemic that no one community is immune to, and we must listen to our state and local health care leaders and providers to help protect ourselves and those around us,” said Tarver. “By following guidelines set by state and federal agencies, we can help slow the spread of this diseases and give health providers the critical time and adequate resources they need to address this situation.”

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recommends many measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 like washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or longer, cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces frequently, and avoiding touching your eyes, nose, mouth, and face.  The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that gatherings of 50 or more people be cancelled or postponed for the next eight weeks. “This is a unique situation, especially given that someone doesn’t have to appear sick to have the virus,” said Tarver. “By taking reasonable measures, we can make a difference in helping to slow and ultimately end this pandemic. I will continue to be in contact with IDPH and our state officials to work with them to make sure that our community has the proper resources and information during these difficult circumstances.
