DES PLAINES, Ill. – Stressing the safety of medical workers and first responders during the COVID-19 crisis, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is calling upon residents to help provide workers with personal protective equipment while they help treat patients with coronavirus.

“We need to look out for the tremendous medical responders working so hard during this pandemic and putting themselves at risk,” Moylan said. “They need to have access to the protection they require to remain healthy while they selflessly treat those with coronavirus. Their incredible generosity during this unprecedented crisis should be acknowledged and repaid.”

Serve Illinois is asking for donations of extra personal protective equipment for first responders and medical workers. They are looking for masks, gowns, gloves, eye protection, infection control kits, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and forehead thermometers. If you have a donation available, please email ppe.donations@illinois.gov which items you have and the quantity of those items. Serve Illinois will respond with the next logistical steps.

Currently, all donations must not have been opened and must remain in the manufacturer’s packaging. Opened products or homemade items may be able to be utilized by your local first responders as needed. For additional ways to help with the COVID-19 response, please go to www.Serve.Illinois.gov.

“These dedicated workers are continuing to take care of us during this crisis, so we have to do our part to take care of them as well,” Moylan said. “Anyone’s and everyone’s donations will be tremendously appreciated and will be a great help for those working to contain COVID-19.”

Residents with concerns about COVID-19 are encouraged to call the Illinois Department of Public Health’s hotline at 1-800-889-3931 or email DPH.SICK@ILLINOIS.GOV. To stay up to date with all new information about COVID-19, visit coronavirus.illinois.gov.
