ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – To share tips that could potentially save homeowners money during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is encouraging residents to take advantage of the free virtual utility bill clinic offered through the Citizens’ Utility Board (CUB).

“As we each continue to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by staying home, now is a great time to check out the virtual utility bill clinics offered by CUB, an organization that works to connect consumers with helpful cost-saving services and tips,” said Manley. “While so many families are facing uncertainty with employment and finances, now more than ever every dollar counts.”

Manley is highlighting CUB’s free virtual utility bill clinic. To take advantage of the clinic, send Aimee Gendusa of CUB a copy of your electric, natural gas or landline phone bill at aenglish@citizensutilityboard.org with ATTN: Virtual Utility Bill Clinic in the subject line. Residents can feel free to redact personal information, but should make sure to include the account holder’s name and a return address or email address for CUB to send their analysis.

CUB will evaluate the bill to determine if you are paying for unnecessary products or services, and let you know if you are eligible for money-saving programs, like financial assistance, and share information about energy-efficiency products and services.

“Some utility companies are offering deferred payment plans and other assistance to residents to help ease the burden during this time, but it never hurts to look for additional ways to save,” continued Manley. “I encourage residents to take advantage of CUB’s free utility bill clinics to find out if you are overpaying on your utility to bills, learn ways to save in the future and to help keep more of your hard-earned dollars in your pocket.”
