Reitz Promotes Safety Measures for Returning Employees

RED BUD, Ill. – State Rep. Nathan Reitz, D-Steeleville, is highlighting the new safety protocols for employees in essential businesses that are going back to work under the modified stay-at-home order.

“While the stay-at-home order remains in effect for most people, the return of many workers to essential businesses under the modified stay-at-home order marks a critical point in Illinois’ economic recovery,” Reitz said. “However, it is essential that both employers and employees observe the safety policies in place to combat the COVID-19 virus. Relaxing some standards while still being careful to keep everyone safe is the first step to revitalizing the Illinois economy and resuming regular life.”

As a part of the new modified stay-at-home order, starting May 1, essential businesses and manufacturers will be required to provide face-coverings for all employees who are not able to sustain six-feet of social distancing. The state will also implement additional requirements for these businesses as well, including occupancy limits in stores and staggering shifts to ensure adequate social distancing practices are being followed. Employees can report violations that put their safety at risk by calling the Attorney General’s Workplace Rights Bureau at 844-740-5076 or emailing workplacerights@atg.state.il.us.

“We are doing all we can to support employers and employees affected under this crisis, and with these modified rules, many can start a safe return under this process,” said Reitz. “We are all hopeful to return to our normal lives soon, and by following the safety procedures for those new businesses reopening, we are one small step closer.”
