Slaughter Highlights Stay at Home Order Extension to May 30

CHICAGO – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is highlighting Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s recent executive order extending Illinois’ mandatory stay at home order through the end of May to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“While the president spreads disinformation, we in Illinois will continue to lead by making decisions informed by our scientific communities,” said Slaughter. “I commend the governor for prioritizing the public health and taking the necessary steps to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

Slaughter is encouraging Illinois residents to abide the stay at home order to help protect communities across Illinois and slow the spread of COVID-19, and is also highlighting some of the other recent modifications to the order. Updated stay at home order guidelines include requiring residents over the age of two to wear face coverings when in public unless medically unable to do so, and mandatory occupancy limits for essential businesses. In addition to the new guidelines, the state is also expanding its definition of essential businesses to include animal grooming centers and greenhouses. Non-essential businesses may also reopen to accept online and telephone orders for delivery or curbside pickup.

“While it is true that the stay at home order has made life difficult, it is critical that we all do our part to protect ourselves and others from the spread of COVID-19 in order to return to our way of life as soon as possible,” said Slaughter. “Now, more than ever, our communities’ bonds will be called upon to carry us through this difficult time. I know that we will get through this together.”
